Your Cake Wallet Just Got a Serious Upgrade: Trezor, BitBox, Base & the Look You've Been Asking For
Cake Wallet v5.5.0 might be our biggest update yet. New hardware wallet support, a shiny new Layer 2 network, and an old favorite theme made new that'll make you fall in love with your wallet all over again.

Hardware Wallets: Fort Knox In Your Pocket

First up: Trezor and BitBox support is now live on Android! If you're not familiar with hardware wallets, think of them like a secure USB stick for your crypto. They keep your private keys completely offline, away from hackers, malware, and other threats.
The challenge has traditionally been making that security convenient. To help solve this, we've built seamless integration with Trezor and BitBox devices, complete with a polished setup flow. Now you get the security of a hardware wallet with the sleek, intuitive interface and convenient features you're used to from Cake Wallet.
Here's how it works: plug in your hardware device, follow our streamlined setup process (seriously, we made it really easy), and now you're managing your assets with top-tier security AND convenience. iOS coming soon!
Base Jumping into Layer 2

Next up: we've added native support for Base!
What is Base? Think of Ethereum as a popular highway. Good infrastructure, trusted by millions, but during rush hour traffic gets backed up and tolls (gas fees) skyrocket. Layer 2 solutions like Base are like express lanes built on top of that highway, they use Ethereum's infrastructure but process transactions faster and cheaper.
These attributes mean Base is getting quite popular, leading to many requests from the community to include it in Cake Wallet. Now you get access to lower fees, faster transactions, and access to a growing ecosystem of apps and tokens. Learn more about Base on its website.
To get started, just select Base from your wallet list, and you're ready to send, receive, and store assets on this fast-growing network.
Be Your Own Brokerage: Trade Stocks with Your Crypto

This is pretty huge: you can now access xStocks directly in Cake Wallet.
What are xStocks? They're tokenized versions of real-world stocks and ETFs like Google, Amazon, Nvidia, and many other blue-chip companies. The twist? You can buy them using crypto without ever touching a traditional brokerage account. No banks. No brokers. No waiting for market hours. Just 24/7 trading, completely self-custodial.
Here's how it works: head to Settings > Add Tokens, and add whichever tokens you want. Now, you can swap USDT (or other crypto) directly into tokenized stocks. You're not buying the actual stock itself, you're holding a token that represents it. Think of it like holding a receipt that tracks the stock's value. If the company pays dividends, you'll see that reflected in your holdings automatically. That's it, no complicated onboarding. Just swap, hold, and trade whenever you want.
The trading itself is handled by xStocks (backed by reputable partners you can read about at xstocks.com). We just make it ridiculously easy to access from Cake Wallet. You can learn more from Bitcoin Magazine who did great coverage for this feature:

Whether you want to diversify your portfolio, take advantage of after-hours trading, or just experiment with a new way to invest, xStocks gives you another tool in your financial freedom toolkit, all without leaving your self-custodial wallet. Yes, we're democratizing wealth-building across borders. It's pretty cool.
Monero Orange is Back!

We heard you. Loud and clear. When we temporarily removed it while working on our bigger redesign plans, the feedback was...let's say passionate. We've been working hard on bringing it back, better than ever with our new theming system...just in time for Halloween.
There's a lot more coming on the design front (trust us, we've got some exciting changes in the works), but for now, enjoy customizing your Cake Wallet to match your style.
More Changes Under the Hood:
- We've migrated to cake.mempool.space as our new blockchain explorer, which means more reliable, faster, and more consistent fee estimations.
- We've fixed bugs, improved code quality, and generally made everything run smoother and more reliably.
