Cake Wallet Releases Native Tor Integration, European DeFi, and Enhanced Usability
Today, we're excited to announce Cake Wallet v5.1.0, featuring experimental Tor integration, European DeFi opportunities, and other improvements across the platform.
Tor Support: Privacy Takes Center Stage
Privacy has always been at the heart of our mission, and v5.1.0 takes this commitment to the next level with native Tor integration. Our initial release of this feature routes all Cake Wallet connections through the Tor network, adding a deep layer of anonymity to your in-app activities, including:
- Fiat API calls for price data
- Cryptocurrency swaps and exchanges
- Node connections
- NFT and token lookups
- All other network connections

To clarify, Cake Wallet has always been compatible with the Tor network, and we've actively encouraged users to use Tor via Orbot for enhanced privacy. The beauty of this update is it removes the need for third-party tools, baking Tor directly into our app.

Important: We're launching Tor support as an experimental feature for two reasons:
- Android Only (For Now): The initial implementation is available exclusively on Android devices with iOS still in development.
- Comprehensive Testing Required: Real-world usage across different devices and network conditions requires broader community testing to guarantee privacy.
We encourage privacy-focused users to experiment with this feature and provide feedback. Your real-world testing helps us identify edge cases and improve the implementation for everyone!
dEURO Integration: European DeFi Comes to Mobile
Cake Wallet v5.1.0 introduces support for dEURO, a fully decentralized, Euro-denominated stablecoin that brings yield opportunities directly to Cake Wallet.

A Note on Silent Payments
We wanted to take a moment to update you all on a popular feature of ours: Silent Payments. We've been working hard to bring Silent Payments to over 600k users, but unfortunately have hit some snags along the way. In particular, we noticed a regression in Silent Payments that is breaking synchronization for most Silent Payment users after we released v5.0.1, and the fix is not as straight-forward as we initially suspected.
Please note that the bug in Silent Payments has no ability to lose funds, but merely affects the scanning functionality. As soon as the issue is resolved you'll be able to get back to scanning and seeing those private payments.
We want to apologize for the delays in resolving Silent Payments issues. Shipping cutting-edge privacy tech often comes with difficulties, but we promise we're working overtime to get this resolved and let you all get back to privacy-preserving payments on Bitcoin.
