Cake Wallet Launches A New Chain, New Swaps, and More!

Zcash: Another Privacy Coin

What it is: Zcash (ZEC) is a cryptocurrency that aims to offer strong privacy protection. While Bitcoin and Ethereum transactions are largely public by default (anyone can see how much you sent and where), Zcash gives you the option to make transactions private using something called "shielded addresses." At Cake Wallet, we've made shielding mandatory for Zcash—a feature we believe should be the standard for all users. This means you can only send and receive Zcash through shielded addresses, ensuring your privacy is protected by default.

While you can still send funds to transparent (non-shielded) addresses when needed, your transactions will always originate from a shielded source, keeping your financial activity private. By using Zcash in Cake Wallet, you're joining a community of users who prioritize the highest standards of financial privacy.

Why it matters: Imagine if every time you bought coffee with your debit card, everyone in the coffee shop could see your bank balance and every purchase you've ever made. That's basically how most crypto works. Zcash, Monero, and other privacy coins try to flip this on its head.

What this means for Cake Wallet users: With Zcash support coming to v5.7, you'll be able to store, send, and receive ZEC right in Cake Wallet—with the same interface you're already used to. All shielded by default for optimal privacy. When it comes to privacy-oriented tools, we now support:

  • Monero
  • Zano
  • Decred
  • Bitcoin Silent Payments & Payjoin V2
  • Litecoin MWEB
  • And now Zcash

And it goes without saying, XMR isn't going anywhere—it's a cornerstone of what Cake Wallet stands for and a core part of our identities. But here's the thing: more privacy options in the ecosystem means more people thinking about privacy, period. Whether someone starts with Zcash and later discovers Monero, or uses both for different purposes, it all strengthens the broader movement toward financial privacy where users have the freedom to use any currency. (and hey, we still have a dedicated app, monero.com for any of you who are Monero-only!)

Bringing Zcash to Cake Wallet is a major milestone for us, and we’re excited to see it in your hands at last. Welcome to a more private way to transact.

Important - As Zashi has implemented a different approach to change addresses than Cake Wallet and other more established Zcash wallets, restoring a Zashi seed phrase in Cake Wallet will not show all funds available. If you're migrating to Cake Wallet from Zashi, create a new Zcash wallet in Cake, and send your ZEC funds over to your new Zcash wallet in Cake from Zashi.

Near Intents Comes To Cake Wallet!

Cake Wallet’s support for NEAR Intents makes cross-chain swaps simpler, more decentralized, and easier to trust. Instead of relying on a single route or intermediary, NEAR Intents let multiple independent market makers compete to fulfill each swap, with the best option selected automatically. From the user’s perspective, it feels straightforward, you choose what you want to swap, and Cake Wallet handles the rest, while behind the scenes the process is designed to minimize trust, fees, and reduce unnecessary intermediaries. From your side, it’s a single swap flow, while the protocol handles decentralized execution in the background.

Built on the NEAR Protocol, NEAR Intents help ensure cross-chain swaps are executed efficiently and transparently, without users needing to understand bridges, liquidity sources, or complex routing. And it’s not just better swaps, it even adds support for swapping shielded Zcash, meaning you get the best privacy Zcash has to offer any time you swap. The result is a smoother swapping experience that stays true to Cake Wallet’s focus on user privacy, self-custody, and user control: fewer assumptions, fewer manual steps, less margin for error, and more confidence that your swap is being executed in the most reliable way possible.
