Cake Wallet Introduces Decred and New Background Sync for Monero (v4.24.0)
Cake Wallet v4.24.0, featuring our initial launch for Decred, background sync for Monero, and many more improvements!

Welcoming Decred to the Cake Wallet Family
One of the major highlights of this release is the introduction of Decred! You can now seamlessly manage, send, and receive Decred within Cake Wallet. We’re committed to offering a diverse range of cryptocurrencies, as we believe a multicurrency world is a resilient one.
Never heard of Decred?
Decred (DCR)
is a blockchain-based cryptocurrency with a strong focus on community input, open governance, and sustainable funding for development. It utilizes a hybrid Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mining system to ensure that a small group cannot dominate the flow of transactions or make changes to Decred without the input of the community. A unit of the currency is called a decred (DCR).

Our documentation details more technical information about Decred, including:
- Seed Format: Cake Wallet uses a 15-word seed format for Decred wallets. When creating or restoring a wallet, you'll need to use this 15-word seed phrase.
- Addresses: Cake Wallet automatically generates a new Decred address after each use for better privacy. Previous addresses continue to work.
- SPV Sync: The Decred wallet in Cake uses SPV (Simply Payment Verification) which maximizes privacy and data usage.

Have Your Cake and Eat It Too with Background Sync
A large usability hurdle for cryptocurrencies like Monero is sync times. Previously, you've needed to leave Cake Wallet open to sync your Monero wallet. This limitation exists because owning your keys means your device handles the blockchain synchronization. To make this process simpler, we are launching our first iteration of background sync, initially for Monero!
Cake Wallet now has background sync for Monero. It's super useful. Love it. @cakewallet

Background sync will attempt to sync all your wallets in the background at a specified interval. Our documentation includes more information. Some important details:
- This is currently only for Android. iOS has major restrictions for functionality like this.
- This is currently only for Monero. Don't worry, we plan to add Litecoin MWEB, Decred, Zano, and even Bitcoin Silent Payments in the future.
- You can select from three sync options:
- Daily: Attempts to background sync every 18 hours
- Hourly: Attempts to background sync every 60 minutes
- Aggressive: Attempts to background sync every 15 minutes
- Our current implementation has issues with GrapheneOS. But our docs includes a workaround. We are exploring other solutions in the future to resolve this issue.
